Sol y Luna, London - Colourful Clay

I haven't posted on my Hortensis garden blog for many years.  In 2015 I retired from garden design and took up pottery classes at The Putney School of Art & Design in SW London.  Pottery very soon took over my life and by 2019 I knew this was my new direction so I set up a home pottery studio as by then I was fully committed to clay - the ceramics kind!

Although now being fully committed to working with clay, my interest in gardens and horticulture continues. While honing my pottery skills I like to use plants and plant imagery as inspiration for my decorations.  I also experiment with patterns that remind me of my 1950's childhood like the Atomic era and memories of my 1960's teenage years throws up lovely colour combinations like oranges and pinks that intertwined my life through 'flower power'.   My finished work meanders through all my memories.

I am still hugely enthralled by gardening and with plants and trees, and indeed I do still write about them from time to time.  However, I am now so engrossed in creating ceramics which has led me into another world entirely, although the two do overlap in that I love to make vases for cut flowers as well as containers for plants.

My ceramics are available to purchase from Sol y Luna, London.  Here you will find my hand made ceramics alongside other curated ceramics, original art, textiles and other hand made finds.  Follow the link Sol y Luna, London
