Lavandula angustifolia

It's June and today I made the first a cut of the season from one of my lavender plants.  It's tempting to leave the flowers on the plant to but if you look carefully you can see new flowers emerging lower down the stem so removing the first flush now helps the plant put all it's effort into the next harvest.  Plus you have a lovely posy of lavender for the table, which scents the room with its delicious aroma!

'Relic'

Stoneware hand-moulded pot using sodium silicate over orange slip and then hand stretched to create a crackled surface.  A textured border and cross lozenge decorate the main body which has a high collared rim.

A wash of manganese oxide has been wiped over the body to settle in the cracks.  This gives a lovely metallic sheen which is pure alchemy and a 'just dug-up' look.
